A thirteen year old girl committed sicide because a boy turned her down on myspace, and it turns out it wasn't the boy who turned her down it was one of her friend's mothers who was pretending to be the boy. Now myspace is getting sued by the girls family is this right?

no this is not right. the parents should be filing a civil suit against the mother. they wont get far in suing myspace, because myspace had nothing to do with it. just because things were transfered thru myspace doesn't make them responsible. ultimately the mother shouldn't have done what she did.

yes bc the "boy" was impersonated by another person. All they have to do is a people search for the "boys" name and charge the lady with identity theft

Sure it's right. It is a criminal investigation, and it is possible that Myspace may be in possession of evidence. It's no different than any other search warrant. Why should they be exempt?

With any luck, this suit will be thrown out by the judge. This is not the fault of myspace, its the fault of a stupid little girl not being able to take rejection because her parent's probably never denied her of anything she wanted thus she didn't know how to deal with rejection.

I think this country is going sue happy. The woman of the girl knows the mother doesn't have any money, but Myspace does from the ads they put on their site. They cannot control certain issues like that. It would be like the suing a newspaper because in their classifieds there was a bogus job in the paper. I couldn't win that crap.

Not at all. It's a frivolous lawsuit. Any good judge would throw this out in court. It is part of the disclaimer when you sign up for MySpace. You acknowledge that MySpace does not control the speech.

That is ridiculous. If they sue anyone it should be the mother. However, they really shouldn't be suing anyone. Their daughter is dead due to their own lack of supervision and care. If she felt loved by her family do you think she would have committed suicide?

I don't believe myspace is getting sued. I thought it was the friend's family. The girls parents shouldn't have let her had a myspace if she's thirteen. I don't believe anyone under 15 should have one. Plus I don't think they can sue. Because myspace had nothing to do with it. It's basically the same as writing an E-Mail.

Myspace takes the blame for a lot of things. Get over it. You know, or should know, that it's not right. Obviously there was something else going on in her life other wise that one little thing wouldn't have made her THAT depressed.

Myspace should not be liable for this. The girl was obviously unstable to begin with... Myspace (and many of it's users) should be sued for many other things though.

Another way to find someone to sue, why not sue the mom instead? I see a lot more standing for that. I'm shocked it has taken this long for some ridiculous person to sue Mypace but I'm sure it wont be the last

The mom suing myspace is NO different than a mom suing Budweiser for their daughter being killed do to drunk driving. That case will get thrown out. The daughter's mom should be suing the boy's mom!
